Itinerary

Day 01.

29/01/25: Depart UK

The big day has finally arrived! Everyone will feel a mixture of nerves and excitement as they meet up for the long-awaited flight to Tanzania. Embrace the nerves and get ready for the experience of a lifetime. 

Day 02.

30/01/25: Flight to Kilimanjaro airport, transfer to hotel

Your local charity challenge representative will meet you in arrivals and you will take a two-hour transfer to your hotel. The evening will include a team dinner, briefing and kit check before getting a long sleep in preparation for the start of the challenge. (D)

Day 03.

31/01/25: Lemosho Gate, 1981m, to big tree camp 2,800m (approx. 3-5hrs)

It’s the long awaited challenge day!

The day starts with a two-hour transfer to Kilimanjaro National Park for registration. You will have lunch here before driving a further 40 mintues to Lemosho Gate at 1981m. The trek begins on a little-used path called Camber’s Route, which takes you through the first layer of kilimanjaro’s eco-systems – the rainforest. The first day’s walk is short but tough and you should be prepared for some steep inclines and descents before you reach the first night of camping. (B, L, D

Day 04.

01/02/25: Big Tree camp to Shira one camp, 3,500m (Approx. 7-8hrs)

Today you will enjoy a morning climb of over 600m as you emerge out of the rainforest and into the next eco-system –  the moorland. After stopping for lunch at a high point, the route heads down onto the Shira Caldera, a high-altitude desert plateau. From here, thee trek is relatively flat into camp and, on a clear day, offers you the first sightings of Uhuru Peak – Kilimanjaro’s dramatic summit. The evening’s camp is at Shira One (3,500m), one of Kilimanjaro’s three volcanic cones. (B, L, D)

Day 05.

23/10/24: Beng Mealea – Svay Leu – Kulen Mountains (7-8 hrs)

After an energising breakfast and another early start, you will have a short 250m challenging climb from camp to the top of Cambodia’s sacred Mount Kulen. The top of the plateau will provide fabulous views across the forests and fields below. Next, you’ll take an undulating track through the forest before stopping for lunch at Anlong Thom, a small village of stilted houses. Finally, head off the beaten path to visit the ‘Bat Cave’ and ‘Elephant Pond’, before finishing at your riverside campground for a night under the stars.

Day 06.

24/10/24: Kulen Mountains – Tbang Pagoda (7-8 hrs)

Today will start with a short trek to the ‘Big Buddha’, a spectacular monument carved directly out of the mountain top. Continuing on, you’ll arrive at the famous Kulen Mountain Waterfall and the ‘River 1000 Lingas (phalluses)’. Here you can see the river bed covered with hundreds of Lingas, along with the depictions of Hindu deites which have been carved into the rocks along the river. Finally, you’ll travel through villages and past local schools and pagodas before reaching the campsite for the night. 

Day 07.

25/10/24: Tbang Pagoda – Angkor Wat Complex (6-7 hrs

After your camp breakfast, you will set off on the final 6km of your trek towards Phnom Bok. From there, you will finish your journey in style as you arrive into the Angkor Wat complex in a colourful procession of tuk tuks. Before lunch, you will be able to climb the steep stairs of the central spire of Angkor Wat for unparalleled views over the whole site. The afternoon will be spent at Ta Prohm, a temple widely recognised as the iconic setting of the 2001 Tomb Raider film. Over the years, the carvings and pillars have intertwined with jungle vines and tree roots to create one of the most picturesque and memorable temples in the Angkor complex.

At sunset, you transfer to the hotel where a long shower and a farewell dinner will be waiting for you. With a belly full of traditional Khmer food, you can celebrate the completion of your Cambodian challenge with your new friends

Day 08.

26/10/24: Depart to UK

Enjoy a leisurely morning and a free part of the day to roam at ease around Siem Reap. Lunch (at your own expense) before heading back to the hotel early afternoon for the 1 hour transfer to the airport for the overnight flight back to the UK to arrive early morning.

Day 09.

27/10/24: Arrival back into the UK

Arrive early morning into London
